It’s been a year and then some since the last time I sat down and documented the goings and comings in my corner of the world. No good excuses, no end-of-year, best-of ’11/’12 lists today, just a thought or two on the second half of my third decade. My life these days is still a work-in-progress, but I feel like I’m moving in a good direction. Who knew that would be further East? West coast nostalgia hits hard sometimes, especially when the days are short, but that’s what Tarantino films, the Beach Boys, and annual pilgrimages to the Mojave are for. And in between, New York more than holds her own.
No, I can’t complain too much, not about the important things. I’m heading into ’13 with a
clearer mind than I’ve had in years- I know what I want to do, who I want to be, and who I want to be it with. If I’ve learned anything from the *character-building* detours of the last few years, though, it’s that these types of good intentions are best applied with an open mind and a sense of humor. From cupcake pusher to code monkey, I’m finding that the jobs come and go and the scenery changes, along with the people you’re enjoying it with, but I’m up for a few more rounds (hopefully with a few comped drinks for my good patronage). I’ll leave it to the Doctor to bring it home-
“No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride…and if it occasionally gets a little heavier than what you had in mind, well…maybe chalk it off to forced conscious expansion: Tune in, freak out, get beaten.”
