I’m en route to Death Valley by way of Las Vegas, and while I’m confined in a metal tube with limited distractions, I thought I’d share some of the miscellanea that I’ve been distracting myself with of late.
It’s been a busy month, but mostly the good sort of busy. I’m playing in two orchestras these days, and starting to play (and fiddle! and improv!) in smaller groups, and I’m finding the prospect of future gigs in dive bars and off-off-off-off broadway-type events infinitely exciting. It wakes up a part of my brain that’s been dormant for much, much too long. Also helping to fight the inertia of the polar misery that is winter in Manhattan for me are running (I plan to experience one of the greatest endorphin highs of my life or die trying by running a half-marathon this weekend in the California desert), escaping (adventures in Morocco really deserve their own post, so more on that later), and reading profusely (highlights include a delightfully, absurdly insightful novel called ‘The Teleportation Accident’ by Ned Beauman).
And now a few shout outs for the especially wonderful things that I’ve discovered (so far) this winter:
Green Porno
(really, just watch the clips on youtube- the genius of Isabella Rossellini speaks for itself)
Jack Lemmon
(by way of Billy Wilder, and whom I adore in all of his variations)

Weekend
(when shoe gazer hooks up with 80s new wave at a hipster west-coast warehouse rave, we all win- and by we, I mean I)
